Good things on the horizon

Hooray! My brother Peter is engaged! I took Pete and Tiffany's engagement photos this week, and this was one of the ones they liked. I don't know if it's the final choice or not, but I think it's a nice one. I'm so excited for them!

Latest Project: the Clutch

Here's my latest project. I forgot to take measurements of the width, etc. so I'll tack that on later if I remember.

New York, New York

This week I spent a few days in New York City attending the Stationary Show and collection inspiration elsewhere as well. Here are some pics from the trip.
Dinner at Virgils with Lauren, Paula, Kristina and Suzanne on the night of our arrival. Our group had to split between 2 tables, so this is only half the group. Train Wreck Fries were awesome.

Typical scenery:

These hydrangeas were the largest I've ever seen! And they were just potted on a front porch!

What's NYC without the interesting people? I call this guy "cheetah man." Honest to goodness that's his real hair, dyed with a cheetah pattern! Who does that?!

I want this chair, along with many other things I saw at Lee's:

Purl--they have a knitting store and fabric store. Much smaller than I expected, but very tidy and quaint.
Other fun things from the trip include seeing Spamalot the musical, and seeing Becki Newton (Amanda) and Michael Urie (Mark) from Ugly Betty (we walked right by them on our way to the musical). She's a tiny little thing.

Pick a do!

I'll spare you the story behind all this, but today I played around with some hair styles on InStyle and iVillage. It was pretty fun. And I decided a few things about myself, including that I prefer dark and short hair on me (for now anyway). I'd love to hear what you think! Feel free to vote on your faves! I've listed mine at the end, though most of the long hair ones aren't realistic since my hair is so much thinner/finer than shown.

And my favorites:

Must Haves

I love love love these critters!!!

One of my coworkers got these ADORABLE booties at her baby shower yesterday. I just can't get enough of them! And they are even cuter in real life!

Speaking of cutie booties, check these out! Oh I absolutely must get some if I ever have a little girl!

Bakerella cake balls

For my sister's baby shower I plan to make these chocolate dipped red velvet cake balls that I found on Bakerella's blog. I think I'm going to try white chocolate. Wish me luck.

Also be sure to check out her cupcake pops! I'm not quite ambitious enough to try these, but aren't they amazing? I'm not sure I could bring myself to take a bite out of something so beautiful and time-intensive!

UPDATE:
I made the cake balls for my sister Patti's baby shower. I stuck each one with a toothpick that had a yellow paper star on the tip. They were cute and everyone loved them...except me. I thought they were too moist, too wet. Well today my friend and co-worker Annie made the cake-pops in celebration of Kristina's birthday, and she used plain ol' cream cheese instead of cream cheese frosting. She tells me that is the trick, and certainly it must be because hers were perfect and delicious. So take note, change in recipe.

I've been tagged!

How To Play This Game of Tag: Post these rules on your blog. List: 3 joys, 3 fears, 3 goals, 3 current obsessions/collections, 3 random surprising facts about yourself. Tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog!

Joys
1. My husband.
2. My health.
3. Living in a country filled with unbelievable conveniences and blessing.

Fears
1. That someone close to me will die.
2. That we will have to make 2 house payments for a long time.
3. That I will be unprepared when I had all the time in the world to prepare (for hard times, disaster, etc).

Goals
1. Excel in my talents.
2. Be a loving, caring, tender wife and mother.
3. Do more to help others.

Obsessions/Collections
1. Right now... sewing. Can't you tell? Really what it comes down to is just plain making stuff. I love to make stuff myself. I think I always have.
2. Selling the house.
3. I'm beginning to be obsessed with the weather, perhaps for the first time. I'm usually pretty patient about spring, but this year I'm losing my patience.

Random Surprising Facts
1. I used to be too shy to even order pizza over the phone. Fortunately my mom forced me to do it anyway.
2. I used to think the color orange was nobody's favorite color, and never would be because it's so hideous. Now it's my favorite color, along with green.
3. Uh... help me out here friends. I can't think of a third one...

OK, here's the tagged people (Don't feel too obligated. There is no assigned curse that will come upon you if you ignore this):
Allie, Mary Karlee, Kari, Paula, Shanan.

The finished product

And here is a picture of the completed purse. A big thanks to Kristina who helped me out with her steady hands and trusty iPhone to get this picture. It seem that my camera is broken, as of today, which will make my blogging a little more challenging.
