Here's what I've been up to this week. Recognize this fabric? From my little pouch I made? More pouches to come, by the way.

My First Zipper

I've never sewn a zipper before, but I wanted to make a pouch to put stuff in (like lotion, lipgloss, etc) in my purse. It's part of an internal organization effort {smile}. It aint perfect, but not too bad for a self taught first timer.

Baby Samuel

Here's a pic of the new baby. He didn't want to wake up. Sleepy baby. He's real tiny, even for a newborn. 'Course he's still under 6 pounds. I've never been able to tell who a baby looks like (mother or father), but as soon as I saw him I said, "He looks just like Dave!" Patti said that sometimes when he wakes up he has a deer-in-the-headlights look, with big open startled eyes.

Red Cap Cards
I discovered this company at the Stationary Show last month, and I fell in love with the art of Carrie Gifford and Francesca Montanari. They remind me of Edward Gorey and Tim Burton. I have to say though, they look better in print than on the web.

Parenting Practice

First of all, no--I'm not pregnant. Second, I'm not posting anything this week because I'm getting my parenting trial run this week, babysitting 2 young'uns all week. (They have a day time sitter while we are at work). Landon is 2 and Mason is 5. Mason doesn't like to eat, but if he does eat he only likes McDonalds, Chick-fil-A, and Subway. Everything else tastes like "frow-up." Last night I managed to trick him into eating spaghetti "worms" by racing him. Hooray! He ate! And this morning Landon had fits because I wouldn't give him animal crackers (the frosting covered kind) for breakfast. Sorry kid, I'm no sucker for tantrums. But they are great sleepers and so far I haven't even had to change a poopy diaper--which means the day time sitter must be getting the poopy ones! ick! They are both adorable. So far it's been kinda fun. Knock on wood. :)

Speaking of babies.... my youngest sister Patti had hers!!!!
She had to have a C-section but both mom and baby are fine (aside from the pain). I only got a partial message by which I've deciphered that he is 17" long, he's small (I want numbers!), and his name is Evan, not Samuel. Congrats Patti! You made it!

Update: He was 5 lbs 9 oz. Patti said that last night when she was looking at him when she was not drugged, she was thinking she prefers the name Samuel, so that's probably what he will be. I'll post photos as soon as I can get some!

At Anthropologie I found some great fabric covered letters that would be oh so cute on a shelf in a baby's room. So I decided to make my own. Here's attempt #1. I think the fabric colors are too soft, and that brighter or darker colors would look better in this application. But not to worry, I bought another paper mache letter for covering, so I'll get a second chance.

Spotlighting: Joel Dewberry

I love the designs and fabrics of designer Joel Dewberry. You might recognize his fabrics from my first multi-panel purse. While I was in New York at the Surtex show, I had the privilege of meeting the man himself and seeing some of his great new line. Turns out he also graduated from BYU, but as a graphic designer, rather than an illustrator like me. It was really great to meet such a fantastic designer and individual.
